The region is situated in the middle of Europe and is a part of the dynamic Rhein-Main region with the most important city being Frankfurt-Am-Main.
The region Bayerischer Untermain consists of the autonomous city of Aschaffenburg, as well as the administrative districts of Aschaffenburg and Miltenberg. Approximately, 374.000 people inhabit this 1478km² area of land which is divided into 65 communes. About 43% (51.000) of the workforce (in total 117.000) is employed in the production and manufacturing sector, while 57% (65.000) is employed in the taxing of services.
One of the peculiarities of this region is the overall ease of access due largely in part to the planning of infrastructure:
- The A3 Frankfurt-Wurzburg and A45 highways traverse the region
- The port of Aschaffenburg has a trimodal container port connected with a shipping line with four departures per week with 48-hour service to Rotterdam
- The city sees the arrival of 39 Intercity-Express, Intercity, or EuroCity trains every day from various locales in Europe
- The nearby airport of Frankfurt Rhein-Main, one of the most important airports in Europe, is located 50km away (30min by car).
The region offers ideal conditions for foreign enterprises:
- Proximity to the large centers of Germany
- A “Bavarian” atmosphere in the Rhein-Main region
- Conditions favorable to industry
- Speedy municipal decisions
- All of the possibilities of investment
- Industrial zones and viable handicrafts enterprises
- Industrial parks catering to logistics and business
- Facilities for new enterprises and corporate headquarters

The most important resources in the region include
- The field of logistics
- The field of mechanization and automation
- The automotive field
- The information technology (IT) field
Finally, the quality of life in the region is one of the best in Germany. Regularly the region finds itself ranked in the top among public satisfaction surveys. Some reasons include the nearby and very accessible forests of Odenwald and Spessart, many regional festivals, excellent wine, and a relatively mild climate.
